I recently found three more books illustrated by Eloise Wilkin.

'We like kindergarten... now come here that I may KILL YOU.'

Seriously, was this illustrator's only encounter with children those normally found in movies like Children of the Corn?

The "We Like Kindergarten" girl looks like a poorly disguised alien baby. Note the crashing UFO in the background of her Martian propaganda seemingly innocent painting.

Their beady little eyes are staring into my soul.

The New Baby could be retitled Dexter: The Early Years.

Eagle-eyed. That's probably 6-7 y old vampire.

I guess I'm a weird kid. I had "We Like Kindergarten" when I was little, and I loved it, and thought all the kids looked very realistic. I still remember the part where they took naps and drank milk, and I was jealous because at my school we didn't have nap time or milk time. My only beef with the book is that Carol needed some drawing lessons and also needed to learn to print her "L" the right way. I felt so superior as a child because even in kindergarten I could draw and print better than that!

Sorry if this is not the response you were expecting but yeah...I did really like that book. Thanks for the memory.

Holy crap I hate art like that. I've always been scared of dolls, too, so this style doesn't really help. "The New Baby" isn't as bad though.

That art style also make me think of Kate Grenway, if Kate Grenway became a social rejected serial killer. Its all cute and warm and cuddly with just a hint of something best defined as, well, as off putting.

My mom used to read me that book - it gets scarier inside.

What if to ask the person who painted these pictures if he/she had a happy childhood?

I actually like them. :P Reminds me of several of my old Golden Goose/Caboose(???)-published books...
