Charles Parrault/Harry Clarke

Just wanted to say, I'm a new member, and this community is awesome! I went to a flea market today, and apart from there being cannabis cones, there was a stall with a box set of 10 of Charles Parrault's fairy tales, all illustrated by Harry Clarke. I bought them all for $2! Would you believe it? I found them oddly dark, and for some reason, Clarke likes to expose nipple. I scanned my favourites from the ten books, so the cut's image heavy.

Yeah. Funny how b/w ink illustrations can do so much more justice than full colour sometimes.

Mmhmm, aren't they? It was my first time at a flea market, too. This has made me want to go more often.

OMGZ. Thank you for scanning these. I adore Harry Clarke; his work pops up in the oddest places. You should forward these on to grandmasgraphics.com; they do a good job of collecting vintage artwork, Harry Clarke especially.

These are giving me all sorts of happy chills, I adore.

How old were these books? (Wish we had some good flea markets around here.. plenty of antique stores, but they're a little short on children's books.)

The original was first published in 1922, but this version's from 1986.

This guy is totally ripping off Beardsley...
But since Beardsley is long dead...
He can't say much against it...
So very nice finds :)

I actually think Clarke was far better than Beardsley, to be honest.
